Scope, access, production constraints, and reporting are confirmed before work begins. High and critical finding retests are included at no additional charge when requested.
A scan checks systems for known patterns at scale. A penetration test uses tools and human analysis to investigate authorization, business logic, privilege, architecture, and attack chains in the context of the system. Scanning can support a pentest, but it does not replace one.
Scoping considers the systems, roles, architecture, objectives, environment, testing window, production constraints, exclusions, and access needed. The result is an agreed scope and rules of engagement before testing starts.
Some testing can be performed safely in production when the scope, timing, techniques, monitoring, and stop conditions support it. The decision is made during scoping; higher-risk or disruptive techniques may be excluded or moved to a suitable test environment.
The rules of engagement should define an agreed communication path for urgent findings. Evidence is shared carefully with the appropriate client contacts rather than waiting for the final report.
